Magic Detergent: from left; Bright Red, Magic A and Taller

Magic Detergent is a rock band which was formed in the year of 2004. Founded by its talented front man, known as The Magic A, he and his band decided to release their first album in the late 2004. Titled ‘Red is Love and Blood but the Sun is Orange’, their first album failed to make an impact in the music industry mainly because they didn’t make any song for their first album. Critics such as The Rolling Stones, Rock Magazines and others emphasized that it’s a shame that their 1st album failed to deliver what was expected of them, but mentioned that it’s a good experience for the young band and hope for the best from them in the future.

The band was under the radar after that giving reason to concentrate on their life and such. Despite that, fans are still unconvinced and feared that their favorite band are going to disband.

But two years after the incident, rumors on the resurgence of the artistic band started to spread wildly in the internet and only later it was confirmed when Mtv pays a visit to The Magic A’s place in the famous Mtv show, The Cribs.

“Yeah we’re making new album; you’ll just have to wait for it,” when asked.

Now after a long wait, fans were delighted when the band has announced that their 2nd album will be released in the early 2008. The album, titled ‘We rock love not otherwise’ has already getting a lot of attention from the critics even though it’s still quite far from its release date.

“This is going to be the best album of the century!” Women’s Weekly.

“Makes me want to go straight.” Gay’s Gay Magazine.

“It’s gold...” Kenya West.

“The Music, the lyrics, the melody, the guitar strokes… it is heaven, it’s a masterpiece… even though I haven’t heard it,” The Rolling Stones.

We are so fortunate to have an interview with The Magic Detergent considering their crammed schedule. So our VJ Denise with the interview,

Denise - So hi guys!! Thanks for coming!!!
MD - Hi D, our pleasure.

Denise - First of all, we MTV would like to congratulate upon your coming album, and we are just so exited about it!!
MD - Awh... Thanks there, if it wouldn’t because of you guys, the fans, who has been so supportive even after the failure of our first album, we wouldn’t be here, let alone to make another album, so namastee!!

Denise - Your welcome *giggles* so 1st question, what brought you guys back together?
MD - Hmm… well the thing is that we never split up on the first place, we just decided to have a break, re-evaluate ourselves in the music sense of way… you know due to our failure on the first album, so yeah… So we went doing our things for a while. And then around a year ago, I just got this… uh… Visions, to make the album… so me and Red here, we pick up our instruments… we jammed all day all night, we taped it, showed it to the rest of the band, one thing led to another, and poof! Just like that, our 2nd album was born.

Denise - Coolio, so why did you kept it down low? Because things like this are huge. People went mad when they thought you guys stop making music.
MD - Awh man! For real!? Man… We would like to apologize to the fans for that… it’s just we didn’t plan this thing, it just kapoof!! We did this album in just less than a day! And we also want to keep it low, because we don’t want the media to get hype because of it, we don’t want the thing like when we got our 1st album happened again… you get?... so I think maybe that’s why…

Denise - Oh… I see… so magic, tell us about this new album, what is the difference from your previous unsuccessful album?
MD - well… I think, in this album, we have grown a lot; we have matured, as a band, and in a music sense of way… so yeah… I think our album now is much more powerful than before. We also want to try something new in this new album; we collaborated with the likes of Jay-Z, Timbaland and Bono… just to… uh… anyway one of it is with Jay-Z in our own version of a thousand miles, it’s nearly completed, just some minor changes here and there… It’s going to be big we tell you.

Denise – Can’t Wait! So describe, as you reckon, this your new kind of music.
MD - Well… how to describe… how to describe… hmm… just put it like this, its poetic like Coldplay, its melodious like Keane, Strong like U2, finesse like Foo fighters and united like the Backstreet Boys. So I hope that’ll explain it. You’ll know what I meant when the album hits the store.

Denise - Great! So how many tracks are there in this album? Name for your first single?
MD - Well, we haven’t made any of the songs yet… there’s a plan to… but we want to make an album without songs in it as a trademark of our band… we want to be unique you see, not just an ordinary rock band, so, there aren’t going to be any in it, just titles of the songs, 11 altogether with ‘baby you need plastic surgery to love’ as our first single. So fans, watch out for it in few months time, it’s a sweet song.

Denise - Okay… so what’s this album of yours about?
MD - well it’s about a lot of things, about love, hate, war, peace, politics, people, friends, animals, everything!

Denise - Here, in this one album?
MD - Yup.

Denise - So moving on, you guys have been nominated for the best rock band and the best album of the year, at both Mtv Music Award and The Grammy, competing with the likes of Green Day, Korn, Incubus, even if your album has not been released yet! How do you guys feel about that? You think you can win?
MD - wow… man… just to be nominated with these guys… come on, Green Day, Korn, Incubus… they are like our idols man… just to be nominated with them is a great honor. And just to be nominated for best rock band and best album is already excellent enough for us, considering that our album has not even been released yet! It’s the highest compliment for us.

Denise - So baby, what do you think of me?
MD - You’re hot, just a little skinny. Put on some weight, I might ask you out for a date.

Denise - Why Magic Detergent? You know, we always wonder about that.
MD - Well, it’s a Greek word I gather from a book called ‘Miyamomoto Hyasundaei.’ It’s a Latin uh… love book… anyway, no! No! It’s not porn! It’s just a love story between two girls who’s passionate with each other; it’s a very good book… anyway! So from the book, there’s the magic detergent word, in chapter 7 if I can remember, where they used it to… uh… never mind! So anyway! The word for me just clicked with our kind of music… and so yah, the rest is history.

Denise - What’s your favorite part of the book?
MD - well… page 69, when they for the first time… they got together… in the apartment… alone… having conversation, its really touching about what they were talking about, famine, war, cats etc.

Denise - So, next question…
MD - can we go now? We’re like kind of busy you see…

Denise - Oh… sorry… so! Thank you guys for spending time with us, we wish you all the best for the upcoming album!
MD - thanks for having us D.

So there you are guys, an interview with the coolest band ever! With their new album coming out in the early 2008, people just can’t wait to get their hands on it. It was reported that people all over the Europe has already queuing up at stores so they wouldn’t miss what the media has labeled it as the phenomenon album! So I’m going to go queue up also! Catch you guys later! Sempoi~
